Concluding my Internship at Tupelo Honey

Ethan Polak

Last Friday officially marked my final day as a sports production intern at Tupelo Honey!

The last 427 days were one incredible ride! I had the opportunity to work over 75 different events diversifying my skill set as a producer, graphics operator, replay operator and score bug operator.

Highlights included:

1. Produced my first broadcasts for ESPN+ during IU Indy WSOC and WBB games

2. Ran Ross Xpression graphics for the ESPN8 the Ocho Day shows

3. Acted as a replay op on Dreamcatcher for Major League Rugby Playoffs

4. Operated Xpression graphics for nearly every Indy Eleven Professional Soccer match last season including the USLC Playoffs

5. Managed graphics on Singular Live for the NCAA DI-DIII Rowing Championships

6. Controlled the Daktronics graphics and Mira replay for the in-house broadcasts at the Indy Fuel Hockey Club

7. Practiced with the Viz scorebug during ESPN college football shows

I am grateful to my internship coordinators Hayley Zedeck and Greg Ambrose for providing me with numerous opportunities to get hands-on experience using all the different equipment in the studios. Another shoutout to John ServizziGreg Weitekamp, and Adam Coppinger for meeting with me and sharing your experiences and knowledge of the industry!

Lastly, thank you to all the amazing producers, directors, graphics/replay/camera ops, and anyone else I had the pleasure of working with over the past year for taking the time out of your days to show me what it takes to be in sports production!

This isn’t a goodbye, it is more of a see you later as I plan to continue assisting as a freelance producer and graphics operator this spring while I continue my job search!
